Michael Baker

Baker's Top Ten Shoes of All Time - #6 The Air Jordan VI

It was only a matter of time before the Air Jordan line made its way onto this list. Its probably safe to say that this is not the last either. Of all the Jordan's on this list, this is probably the least comfortable and not the greatest looking. But, the anticipation and mystery behind this shoe engulfed about a 6 months of my life and because of that, it made the list. Let me paint a picture for you. In about 5th grade, I bought an Air Jordan poster. In the poster, His Airness was dunking and clearly not wearing his current shoe - the Air Jordan V. The photo was blurry, but with a magnifying glass (honestly I used one) you could see that the tongue of the shoe had two "holes" in it. Were they glass windows? Plastic windows? Holograms? Could they be....no way....the first "pump" in an Air Jordan? For six months I pondered, tossing and turning in my bed. When finally bought the shoe on release day - MJ's birthday - it was s secret no more. They were just holes. Still pretty cool though. Its a good shoe, and Michael wore it to one of his 6 NBA championships. One of the more simple, yet elegant of the AJs, its a classic and you have to love the "icey" soles For this reason, "the 6" is number 6 on the list.
